Courses | Facial Hair Knotting for Theatre and Film | Complections International Academy of Make-up Artistry Facial Hair Knotting for Theatre and Film

In film, television, and the theatre, maintaining and applying facial hair is the make-up artist’s responsibility. Facial hair knotting is a valuable skill for a make-up artist in film, television, theatre, or prosthetics. Facial hair can change the look of a character to reflect a different time period, suggest a type of character, or add realism to a prosthetic appliance or prop.

Individual hairs are delicately knotted onto netting to create sideburns, mustaches, or beards that are highly realistic on film. These pieces can be used repeatedly if they are well maintained, making them ideal for theatre or film continuity. A make-up artist will be expected to know how to clean and secure wigs to a performer's head.
